The Story Behind 1 Oz Coffee

How it all started. Yulia Kolchanova and her husband moved to the USA in 2008 from the middle of Siberia. They were living in Silicon Valley for years struggling to find a cup of coffee that would satisfy Yulia’s taste buds. Eventually it pushed her to start making coffee at home herself. Yulia's quest for the perfect brew soon blossomed into an obsession as she dove, headfirst starting with a small specialty coffee catering service, then a mobile espresso bar in Santa Clara and next a coffee shop in downtown Mountain View. When covid hit it redirected their coffee shop dreams giving her and her husband the opportunity to explore other parts of the USA.

Yulia and her husband started their search to find the perfect destination for 1oz Coffee’s beach location. They traveled to Florida, Texas and Seattle. It wasn’t until driving from Santa Cruz to San Diego, they found out that Huntington Beach was lacking a specialty coffee shop. They found the perfect location to create the one-of-a-kind experience that awakened the senses with coffee mixed with an ocean breeze.

She dreamt of the ocean air, combined with the aroma and warmth of a cup of coffee and she made it happen!

1oz Coffee is so much more than a coffee shop. It's a place where friendships are forged, ideas are born, and stories are shared. Sit down and forget about your everyday problems. The 5th Street location is not only incredible with its view of the ocean it also has a kitchen that allows Yulia to do something bigger than just beans. Yulia’s variety of unique Sourdough Waffle Sandwiches are like no other. Yulia is doing it all and living the dream as mama to 3 young boys and dog mama to little Ozzy. Stop in to 1oz Coffee on 5th and meet Yulia, if she isn’t off snowboaring or swimming ideally in the same day like a true Californian she is making the best coffee in town.
